Film festivals are an effective way of attracting diverse audiences. Some festivals go on tour, and cinemas can offer to host them.

- Bite The Mango Film Festival - Bradford’s Black and Asian festival.
- Birds Eye View Festival, London - films by women directors.
- Commonwealth Film Festival, Manchester - shorts, feature films and documentaries from Commonwealth countries.
- Deaffest (Deaf Film and Television Festival) - films contain sign language and subtitles.
- London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival - organised by the bfi, this festival also goes on tour.
- Oska Bright Film Festival, Brighton (Carousel) - films by people with learning disabilities.
- Showcomotion, Sheffield - shows international films for and by children and young people. Showcomotion includes workshops and other educational activities.
- UK Jewish Film Festival, London - films about Jewish people and issues. Also goes on tour.
