 Employment law

Employment law

This section provides general information on employment law. If you have specific questions, you should seek legal advice from a lawyer or trade union.

WorkLine offers advice on the website, through a confidential phone number or email. The service is sponsored by the UK Film Council and Women in Film and Television, and supported by Goodman Derrick LLP (Employment Lawyers).

The information in this section of the Diversity Toolkit has been compiled by Croner, an organisation providing information, advice and support in the areas of employment, health and safety and environmental compliance.

There are legal rules that you must follow to prevent discrimination at work and to support diversity in your workforce. This section looks at the fundamentals of employment law in general and at discrimination law in particular.

  • Employment law fundamentals - includes guidance on pay, working time, flexible working, discipline and dismissal, and grievances.
  • Discrimination law - gives an overview of the legislation that protects workers from discrimination on a number of grounds.
  • Which workers are covered? - explains the differences between employees and other workers (such as freelancers or temporary workers), and the rights that apply to these groups of workers.
